LEROY WEST, 63, DIES SUNDAY

Leroy West, 63, 627 W. Nevada St., died suddenly at his home Sunday evening. He had been in his usual health on Sunday and his death of a heart attack was without warning symptoms. Born Sept. 2, 1891 near Downing, Mo., he was the son of Simon and Mary Heilin West. He received his education and grew up in that community. When he was 15 years old he came to Marshalltown. On Sept. 17, 1918, he was married to Effie May Hemphill. The couple lived in Illinois for six years prior to coming to Central Iowa in 1925 where he was employed by the Marshall Canning Co., and for the last two years by Marshalltown Manufacturing Co. Mr. West was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Marshall Lodge No. 108 AF & AM. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother. SURVIVING ARE his widow, two sons, a daughter; Don West, Iowa City, James West, South Bend, Ind., and Mrs. Donald Maulsby, Marshalltown. Also surviving are two grandsons, Dennis and Steve Maulsby, three sisters and a brother, Mrs. Minnie Crawford, Marshalltown, Mrs. Emma Hawkins, Moline, Ill., and Mrs. Stella Pickens, Kansas City, Mo., Tom West, Downing, Mo., and one half-brother, Frank Miller, Coatsville, Mo. Services will be held from the Estel-Perin Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday in charge of the Rev. Ronald Dickson. Committal services in Riverside cemetery will be in charge of Marshall Lodge No, 108, AF & AM.
