STATE CENTER YOUTH DIES IN FARM ACCIDENT

State Center---(Special)---Delbert Schuler, 22, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Schuler, nine mile northwest of State Center, was killed in a disking accident late Tuesday afternoon at the Schuler farm. The youth was to have reported at the Marshall county draft board Wednesday afternoon for instructions prior to going to Des Moines for his preinduction physical examination later this week. BODY NOT MANGLED The death occurred sometime between 4:20 and 6:30 p.m. The young farmer had last been seen alive about 4:20. When he did not return to the farm home, his father went in search of him, finding him dead under the drawbar of the disc. It was assumed the youth was thrown from the tractor as it hit a rough spot, falling under the disc. The tractor had stopped and the body had not been dragged. Altho there were bruises across the chest, the body was not mangled. The body was taken to the Brimhall-West funeral home here. Delbert Schuler was born April 28, 1922, on the farm where his parents now live. After graduation from St. Anthony high school in 1940, he joined his father in farming. Prominent in baseball and basketball, the youth attended Upper Iowa university at Fayette one year. He was active in independent baseball, playing on the State Center team two years ago. FUNERAL SATURDAY In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Earl Dillavou of Eldora and Mrs. Lena Meekins of Los Angeles, Calif. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran church, north of State Center, with Rev. G. H. Perlich in charge. A prayer service is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The place of burial is not yet certain.
