WILLIAM MAIRS, IRELAND NATIVE, IS DEAD AT 68

William Mairs, 68, who lived 2 1/2 miles Southwest of Gilman, died at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Thomas Mercy hospital. He entered the hospital a week ago following a stroke. Mr. Mairs was born Dec. 19, 1880 in County Antium, Ireland, the son of William and Eliza Creighdon Mairs. He grew up in Ireland and had worked in shipyards there and in Scotland. TO U.S. IN 1914 In 1914 he came to the United States and settled in the Gilman vicinity where he had since resided. He never married. He was baptized in the Presbyterian church while in Ireland. Surviving are two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Ellen Allen of Marshalltown, Mrs. Lizzie Simpson who lives in Ireland, and John Mairs living in Scotland. There are a number of nieces and nephews. ONE BROTHER DEAD A brother, Alec Mairs, who died at Eldora in 1940 and a sister, Mrs. Mary Rainey of Gilman, preceded him in death. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Gilman Community church in charge of Rev. Nelson Murdock. Burial will be in Prairie View cemetery. Friends may call at the Estel funeral home until 9 a.m. Saturday.
