NEGRO EVANGELIST DIES AT HIS HOME HERE

Elder A. R Tuggles, colored, 610 Doty street, a resident of Marshalltown since last fall, died at his home Tuesday afternoon at 1:45. He had been in failing health for the past two months but was up and around. Death was caused by heart disease and dropsy. Elder Tuggles was born in Memphis, Tenn., April 9, 1880, and lived there until 1911 when he went to Houston, Texas. He was a national evangelist and from Houston he went to many different places as an evangelist for the Church of God in Christ. He married Mrs. Pearl Shaw in Bethany, Mo., Nov. 3, 1943, and they came to Marshalltown. He is survived by his widow, three children by a former marriage, Mrs. Thelmar Emery of Toldedo, Ohio, Mrs. Ruth Spratten of St. Louis, Mo. and a daughter whose married name is unknown here and who lives in Memphis, Tenn. He is also survived by one step-son, Ira C. Shaw of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Miss Ivye Tuggles and Mrs. Arvie Lacky of Memphis, Tenn., and one brother, Leonard Tuggles of St. Louis, Mo. Funeral arrangements are indefinite, pending the arrival of the daughter from Toledo, Ohio.
