PIERCE EVERTS DIES; BORN IN CITY, SPENT HIS LIFETIME HERE

Pierce E. Everts, 55, of 207 South Center street, died early Monday at St. Thomas Mercy hospital where he had been a patient since last Saturday. He had been in failing health for three years and death was of heart disease. Mr. Everts was born March 10, 1892, in Marshalltown, the son of Charles and Mary Holman Everts. He lived here all his life. On Nov. 3, 1921, he was married to Grace White. FIRST MOVIE OPERATOR He was said to be the first projection machine operator here while employed by the old Bijou theater. He was the projectionist for the Casino, Odeon and Capitol theaters, and was last employed by the Strand. He was a member of Banner lodge No. 123 I.O.O.F., Crocker encampment No. 31, F.O.E. Marshalltown No. 341 and Loyal Order of Moose. He was affiliated with the international alliance of Theater Stage Employees and Moving Picture Machine Operators A.F.L. No. 527. THREE SONS SURVIVE Surviving, besides the widow, are two sons, John Henry and Jack W., and one daughter, Mrs. Laurence Vasey, all of Marshalltown; a son by a former marriage, Charles Everts of Hillsboro, Ore., and seven half-brothers and half-sisters. One granddaughter also survives. The body is at Estel funeral home pending funeral arrangements.
