Marshalltown, IA [10-23-1944] p. 7John Samuel Bridgman, a former resident of Albion, died at his home, 706 South Sixth street at 5 p.m. Saturday after an illness of seven months. He was born May 25, 1870 in Appanoose county, a son of James and Tabitha Bridgman, and moved to Albion when a child. He was married to Alice Garten, June 24, 1893, in Marshalltown. To this union nine children were born, two of whom died in infancy. Surviving are Mrs. Bridgman and seven children, Mrs. George Hendrick of St. Anthony, Mrs. Fred Rohrs, Mrs. Howard Detrick, George and Paul Bridgman of Marshalltown, Walter Bridgman of Albert Lea, Minn., and Edward of Los Angeles, Calif. Two brothers, Jesse and Elmer Bridgman of Albion, and two sisters, Mrs. Ida Robbins of Marshalltown and Mrs. Nellie Kimball of Wichita, Kan., 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Tuesday morning at the Estel funeral home in charge of Rev. Pieter Smit, pastor of the First Baptist church. Burial will be in the Albion cemetery. The Estel funeral home will be open to friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
