MRS. VARNUM'S SERVICES DUE 2 P.M. TUESDAY

Services for Mrs. Carrie V. Varnum, 81, 205 East Church street, who died at 2:45 p.m. Saturday at Evangelical Deaconess hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Pursel funeral home. Pastor A. Russell Hagen, district pastor of the Seventh Day Adventists, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside. DEATH OF CARCINOMA Mrs. Varnum had been in failing health for two years. Death was of carcinoma. She was born June 12, 1868, in Morrison, Ill., the daughter of Samuel H. and Mary Ellen Smith. When she was five years old the family moved to Marshall county, six miles southwest of Marshalltown. MARRIED IN 1889 On Nov. 6, 1889, she was married to P. I. K. Varnum who died in 1924. Mrs. Varnum moved to Marshalltown six years ago. Survivors include five sons, Ray, six miles south of Marshalltown, Harold, Tucson, Ariz., and Roy, Kenneth and Hollie, all of Marshalltown; two brothers, Frank L. Smith, Loma Linda, Calif., George S. Smith, Oakdale, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A son, Russell, died in 1948.
