FRED MATTESON DIES AT MERCY HOSPITAL

Fred Adelbert Matteson, who lived with his grandson, Donald Phillips, 208 South Thirteenth street, died Monday afternoon at 2:45 at St. Thomas Mercy hospital. He seemed in his usual health until eight days ago and was taken to the hospital early Saturday morning. Death was caused by a complication of diseases and old age. Mr. Matteson was born May 6, 1859, in DeKalb county, Illinois. When he was 16 he came to Iowa. He was married in 1883 to Miss Emogene Alexander at Harpers Ferry, N.Y. They lived in Des Moines, Alden, Minn., Albert Lee, Minn., and Cedar Rapids and came to Marshalltown in 1901. He was employed here by the Marshall Telephone company for 22 years and was retired Oct. 30, 1930. Mrs. Matteson died in this city in 1930. They were the parents of five children, three of whom survive. They are Mrs. J. A. Colvin and Mrs. Frank Wysocki, both of Los Angeles, Calif., and E. D. Matteson of this city. He is also survived by three grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and one brother, Albert Matteson of Cedar Rapids. Services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the Pursel funeral home in charge of Rev. P. G. Dennis. Burial will be in Riverside.
