JACOB STEGMAN DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Jacob Stegman, 79, of 901 South Twelfth avenue, died at 3 p.m. Thursday after an extended illness. Death was due to a complication of diseases. He was born in Bavaria, Germany, Feb. 18, 1861, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stegman. He was 27 years old when he came to the United States and settled in Dayton, Ohio. Two years later he came to Marshalltown and married Miss Anna Tobias here April 9, 1890. He worked at the Western Grocery company mills for a number years and retired because of ill health in 1934. Surviving besides his widow are four sons, Otto and A. J. Stegman of Waterloo, S. M. and Leo M. Stegman of Marshalltown; one daughter, Mrs. L. R. Anderson, city; one brother, Sylvester Stegman, city, and six grandchildren. One son and one brother preceded him in death. Mr. Stegman was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's church in charge of Father Edward P. Sullivan. Burial will be in Riverside. The rosary will be recited at the Wagner mortuary at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The body will remain at the mortuary until the time of service.
