SUTHERLAND SERVICE PENDING

Margaret Sutherland, 68, a native of Gilman, died Sunday, June 14, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Northport, N.Y.

Following cremation, her ashes will be buried at the Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman. A memorial service will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Friends may call the Smith Funeral Home here for additional information.

The daughter of Ray and Maude Burch Sutherland, she was born May 1, 1913, in Gilman and attended Gilman schools. She later attended St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., and became a registered nurse. She worked in Rochester hospitals until her enlistment in the Army Nurses Corps in 1943. She was assigned to the Charles Mayo Medical Unit and served for three years, 1-1/2 of which were spent in New Guinea and New Zealand. Following her discharge from the army she worked as a nurse in the Veterans Administration until her retirement in 1975.

She is survived by two sisters, Helen Hansen of Sioux City and Virginia Clark of Iowa City. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Hibbard Sutherland of Berkeley, Calif., and Jack Sutherland of Gilman.
