MR. SUTHERLAND RITES TUESDAY

Jack M. Sutherland, 64, of Rte. 2, Gilman, died Saturday morning at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Elder Dennis Taylor, pastor of the Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Fred Anderson, John Foster, Justin Gunderson, Chet Hulin, Harold McCulloch, and Dan Parmley. Burial was at Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman.

The son of Ray and Maude Burch Sutherland, he was born May 1, 1913, near Gilman. He attended school near his family farm and graduated form Gilman High School in 1932.

On March 1, 1947, he was married to Rita Heese in Missouri. The couple had farmed near Gilman all of their marriage.

Mr. Sutherland is survived by his wife; his children, Dennis R. Sutherland of Waterloo, Mrs. Fred (Diane) Ehler of rural Kellogg, Gary H. Sutherland of Des Moines, and Patricia A., David J. and Ronald L. Sutherland, all of the family home; five grandchildren; one brother, Hibbard Sutherland of Berkeley, Calif.; and three sisters, Mrs. Pete (Helen) Hansen of Sioux City, Mrs. Rush (Virginia) Clark of Iowa City, and Margaret Sutherland of Stoneybrook, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his parents.
