MRS. SMITLEY SERVICES HELD

Florence G. Smitley, 94, of the Town Apartments, Gilman, died Monday morning, Oct. 10, at Marshalltown Area Community Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donna Van Maanen of the Gilman United Methodist Church officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and pallbearers were Lester Ashing, Ralph Coppock, Ward Patterson, Walter Schuler, Wendell Walker and Mike Ward.

Burial was at Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman.

The daughter of Stephen and Mary Lambert Gregg, she was born March 30, 1889, at Gilman. She attended Gilman schools, graduating in 1907. She was recently recognized as the oldest living graduate of the Gilman schools.

On Nov. 14, 1942, she was married to Thomas Ray Smitley at Northwood. For 34 years, she held the position as Gilman town clerk.

There are no immediate survivors. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Sara, in infancy; and one brother, Robert L. Gregg.
