Mable Dawson Piper, 87, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 15, at Friendship Manor.
Funeral services were conduced at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Central Christian Church in Marshalltown, with burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in LeGrand.
She was born April 23, 1885, in Miller, S.D. Raised near Albion, she attended Iowa State Normal School at Cedar Falls and taught in Marshall County for five years.
On Dec. 9, 1908, she was married to Alva A. Piper. The couple farmed in Marshall County and in Minnesota for 30 years, moving to Marshalltown in 1941. Mrs. Piper moved to Friendship Manor in 1972.
She was a member of the Marshalltown Women's Club, the Marshall County Farm Bureau, and the Central Christian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Don J. Renaud of Grinnell and Mrs. Herbert Smith of Marshalltown; one son, Ralph E. Piper of St. Louis, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1973.
