John Whitsel Rites Saturday

Services for John D. Whitsel, 74, a resident of the Iowa Soldiers Home, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the ISH Chapel with the Rev. L. T. Proctor in charge. Military burial will be in the Home Cemetery.

Mr. Whitsel died Thursday morning at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He was born June 11, 1895 at Given, a son of Daniel and Mary Lee Whitsel. He spent most of his life in Newton until coming to Marshalltown in 1964. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Richard (Ruth) Webster of Des Moines, Mrs. Arthur (Margie) Benson of Northglen, Colo.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Corney Langstraat, Eddyville.

A brother and one grandchild preceded him in death.
