Robert Houck, 78

Robert E. Houck, 74, of the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, died Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Des Moines.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Iowa Veterans Home, with Chaplain Jack Mauldin officiating. Burial will be in the Veterans Home Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel. A memorial fund has been established. Pursel-Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Washington to Wayne and Grace Campbell Houck. He graduated from McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids. He served in the Navy. He worked for Penick and Ford as a pipefitter for 28 years, retiring in 1973. He moved to Washington state when he retired and returned to Cedar Rapids in 1988. He was a member of the Cedar Rapids American Legion.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Toman and Karen Howie, both of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Charlotte Hennessey of Puyallup, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles.
