HAZEL NYCE DIES AT 85

Miss Hazel Nyce, 85, retired Marshalltown teacher, formerly of 108 ½ N. 1st St., died Thursday morning at the Marshalltown Manor, where she had lived for five years. Miss Nyce was born Jan. 7, 1893, in Marshall County, the daughter of Howard P. and Anna B. Arney Nyce. She received her early education in the rural schools and was graduated from Albion High School and Drake University. After receiving her degree in home economics, she taught in Greene, Renwick and Liscomb, before coming to Marshalltown where she taught at the high school from 1926-1946. After her retirement from teaching, in 1946, she was a sitter for eye patients at the hospital for about 15 years. She was an active member of the Bethel Grove Church of Christ, where services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Charles Fry will officiate and burial will be in the Bethel Grove Cemetery. Survivors include a sister, Erma (Mrs. John) Gould, Conrad, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers. Friends may call at the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home through Friday evening and at the church Saturday morning.
