Services will be held at: Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 3, 2003 at the Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Visitation times are: Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM on Friday, October 3, 2003 at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory where the family will be present to greet friends. A memorial fund has been established in his name with memorials being directed to the Marshalltown Public Library. Leonard was born in Kellogg, Iowa on June 6, 1903, the son of Delmore and Estella (Reichelt) Kingsbury. He was raised and educated in Cherokee, Iowa where he graduated from the Cherokee High School in 1921. Leonard then entered college at the University of Iowa graduating in 1925 with a BA Degree. Leonard later earned his Masters of Education from the University of Colorado. On October 8, 1927, in Eldora, Iowa, Leonard was united in marriage to Helen Cooper. Following their marriage they made their home in Marshalltown where he taught Chemistry at the Marshalltown High School. Leonard actively served his country with the United States Army during World War II from January of 1941 until January of 1946. During this time he was promoted to the rank of Lt. Colonel. Following his honorable discharge from the United States Army, Leonard returned to Marshalltown and resumed teaching at the High School until retiring in 1968. Leonard enjoyed reading and gardening and was a member of the American Legion, the Iowa State Education Association, and The Retired Officer Association. Leonard survived by his Son: Alvin R. Kingsbury, of Marshalltown, his Grandson: Tom (Carol) Beeks, of Le Claire, Iowa; his Granddaughter: Mary (Tim) VanHorn, of Greeneville, Tennessee; his Granddaughter: Claudia (Stosh) Anderson, of Kodiak, Alaska; and five great-grandchildren. Leonard was preceeded in death by his parents Delmore and Estella, his wife Helen in 1995, his daughter Kathryn, his brother Dr. Kenneth Kingsbury and his sister Bernice.
