CORWIN SPRINGER, 92

Corwin A. Springer, 92, of rural Marshall County, died June 3, 2006, at the Southridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bethel Grove Christian Church, with Rev. Cynthia Moore officiating. Burial will follow at the Church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home, where the family will be present. Memorials may be directed to his church in his name. Corwin was born July 14, 1913, in rural Albion, the son of Loyd D. and Elma J. (Arney) Springer. Raised and educated in the area, he graduated from Albion High School and attended Marshalltown Jr. College and 2 years at the Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On June 8, 1933, he was united in marriage to Clara B. Hilsabeck in Newton. Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Albion until 1961, when they moved to a farm near State Center. He was employed by the Iowa Highway Commission and A.S.C.S. Corwin was a long time congregator of Bethel Grove Christian Church, where he had held all offices and was a Sunday school teacher as well as a member of the Bethel Grove Cemetery Board. In addition, he was a volunteer lay chaplain at the Iowa Veterans Home. He enjoyed singing and had sung at many weddings, funerals and church meetings during his life. He also sung at the Messiah performances for many years. Survivors include four daughters Burneta (Gene) McRill of Albion, Marcella (Fred) Palar of Carlisle, Marlene (Frank) Kerr of Omaha, Neb. and Gloria (John) Stewart of Marshalltown; daughter in law Celeste Grudgings of Marshalltown; 13 grandchildren Randy (Becky) Springer of Marshalltown, Gail (Scott) Sund of Walcott, Ia., Evan McRill of Albion, Emery (Connie) McRill of Glenwood, Md., Chris Palar of Urbandale, Hugh (Tracy) Palar of Carlisle, Melinda (John) Roupp of Marshalltown, Renee (Mike) Eicher of Beasley, Texas, Dawn (Dan) Mundil of Des Moines, Majed (Beth) Jafari of Arlington, Va., Brent Stewart of Ames, Maher Jafari of Sherman Oaks, Calif. and Brady (Alissa) Stewart of Marshalltown; and 19 great grandchildren. Preceding Corwin in death were his parents, his wife Clara in 1999, a son Gerald in 1956 and grandson Lucas Palar.
