MAUDE ADAMS, 88

Maude Adams, 88, formerly of Liscomb, died March 2, 2005, at Southridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Liscomb Church of Christ, with Rev. Helmer Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at the Liscomb Cemetery. Friends may call at Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m., with the family being present to greet friends. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice Building Fund. She was born in rural Liscomb on March 11, 1916, the daughter of Guy and Lepha (Bauman) VanVoorhis. Raised and educated in the Liscomb area, she graduated from Liscomb High School in 1933, and then attended Iowa State Teachers College for two years. She and Kenneth Adams were united in marriage in 1935 at Sioux Falls, S.D. Following their marriage, they made their home in Liscomb, where she was a bookkeeper for Ken's Garage which was owned by her husband. Active in the Grace Reformed Church of Liscomb, she later attended the Liscomb Church of Christ. She was a former Noble Grand of the Liscomb Rebecca's, member of the Liscomb Senior Citizens and the Liscomb Federated Women's Club. She is survived by two sons, Deane (Janet) Adams of Marshalltown and Dr. Donald (Carol) Adams of West Des Moines; seven grandchildren, Lori, Doug, Lana, Dan, Greg, Garth and Matthew; 16 great grandchildren; and a sister Wilma McKibben of Marshalltown. Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister Mary Boches.
