Longtime Resident of County Dies
St. Anthony – (Special) – Mrs. C. H. Neff, 80, resident of Marshall County since 1872, died here Thursday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. O. E. Brush. She had been in failing health for some time and was bedfast for the past 20 days. The cause of death was influenza and complications.
Frances Ann Veatch was born February 13, 1863 in Knox County, Mount Vernon, Ohio, daughter of William K. and Martha Lhamon Veatch. The family moved to Marshall County when she was 9 years of age, making its home on a farm north of Albion.
She was married to Carey H. Neff on October 1, 1885. They made their home on a farm north of Liscomb and in 1894 moved to Grand Junction, Colorado. They returned to this community in 1896, residing in the county since that time with the exception of one year, which they spent in Ladysmith, Wisconsin.
Surviving are the widower, three daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. K. G. Arney, Marshalltown; Mrs. Brush, St. Anthony, and Mrs. G. S. Clapsaddle, Liscomb. Sons are H. E. Neff of Beaman and A. W. of Albion. One daughter, Mrs. Roscoe Fiscus preceded her in death.
Also living are 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A brother, W. L. Veatch lives in Cedar Falls, and one sister, Mrs. Lydia Fiscus, lives in Green Mountain.
Mrs. Neff also made a home for two orphans, both of whom survive her. They are Mrs. C. E. Small of Ames, a granddaughter, and Mrs. Mollie Lhamon Hilsabeck of Spencer, a cousin.
The body is at Estel Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Services will be announced later.
