Thomas Elsberry Dies at Deaconess Hospital

Thomas J. Elsberry, 90, who made his home with a son J. F. Elsberry, seven miles south of Marshalltown, died at 3:00 o’clock Saturday morning at the Deaconess Hospital of age debility and complications. He had been a patient in the hospital for three weeks.
Born May 20, 1852, near Albion, Mr. Elsberry had been a resident of this county all his life except for a few years spent in Audubon County and 12 years in Hartington, Nebraska. In 1905 he returned to Marshall County.
His first wife was Miss Jane Hilsabeck, whom he married near Ferguson, July 4, 1869. She died August 4, 1904, near Hartington. Ten children were born to this union, four of whom preceded their father in death. His second wife was Miss Elvira M. Hilsabeck, a cousin of the first Mrs. Elsberry, whom he married in this city September 12, 1905. She died January 20, 1940.
Surviving are five sons and one daughter, W. W. Elsberry of Hartington, Nebraska, P. S. of Brunswick, Nebraska, E. A. of Neligh, Nebraska, F. M. whose address is unknown, J. F. of Marshalltown and Mrs. William A. Sommerlot of Albion. He was the last of 10 children of his father’s family.
Earlier in his life Mr. Elsberry attended the Christian Church.
The body is at the Estel Funeral Home where services will be held Monday afternoon at 3:30 in charge of Rev. L. B. Russell. Burial will be in the Tiber Creek Cemetery.
