Brother of C. E. and P. F. Arney Dies in Arkansas

John Henry Arney, 79, one of the pioneer residents of Marshall county, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, at his home in Stevens, Ark, according to word received by relatives. Mr. Arney had been ill for three or four years and death was due to carcinoma. Mr. Arney was a son of Solomon and Eliza Arney, who were among the earliest settlers of Marshall county, coming west from Indiana in a covered wagon caravan in 1849 to settle in the Bethel Grove neighborhood. John Henry Arney was born on the old Solomon Arney homestead, now the Joe Arney farm, south of the Bethel Grove settlement, Jan. 6, 1856. He was one of a family of five children and his death is the first in the family group. The surviving members are C. E. Arney, Albion; Mrs. Rozzie Long, Manning; Mrs. E. S. Crouse, Burlington, Col., and P. F. Arney, city. Mr. Arney was married to Miss Roena Price of Albion, daughter of Larkin and Sarah Price, also early settlers of the Bethel Grove neighborhood. Mr. and Mrs. Arney celebrated their golden wedding anniversary five years ago. They made their home near Conrad and in the northern part of the state for several years and then returned to Marshall county. For several years Mr. Arney was employed in the implement house of his brother, P. F. Arney, in this city. He moved to Arkansas about 30 years ago. In addition to the brothers and sisters, he is survived by his widow, a son, C. B. Arney, residing in California, and a daughter, Mrs. Leo Hill of Oklahoma City, Okla. He was a member of the Christian church.
