Mrs. C. E. Arney, Longtime Albion Resident, Dead

Albion --- (Special) --- Mrs. Carey E. Arney, 88, died here Thursday afternoon. Wife of a widely known resident of the Albion and Bethel Grove communities, Mrs. Arney came to Marshall county more than three quarters of a century ago. Death came to Mrs. Arney at her home in Albion at 1:50 p.m. from heart complications. She had been in poor health for five months. FUNERAL SATURDAY Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bethel Grove church of which Mrs. Arney has been a member for over 50 years. Rev. P. H. Peterson will be in charge of the services and burial will be in the Bethel Grove cemetery. The body is at Estel funeral home in Marshalltown. On Feb. 27 Mr. and Mrs. Arney would have observed their 70th wedding anniversary. They were married on that date in 1877. Born Jennie Miller, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Miller, June 2, 1858, at Mount Vernon, Ohio, Mrs. Arney came to Iowa township, northwest of Albion, at the age of 12 with her parents. Later she attended the old Albion seminary. RETURNED IN 1893 The Arneys moved to a Crawford county farm near Manning after their marriage and lived there for 16 years. In 1893 they returned to the county, settling on the Arney farm northwest of Albion. They lived there for 25 years before moving to the town of Albion where they have lived for the last 28 years. Besides her church work Mrs. Arney was a member of the Albion W. C. T. U. and was active in the organization as long as her health would permit. Survivors, besides the widower, are J. V. Arney, Miss Nellie Arney and Mrs. Elma Springer, children, all of Albion; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Shearer, Willsey, Kan.; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
