Harold Smith Dies Sunday

Harold DeLand Smith, 82, 2510 S. 6th St., died Sunday at the Marshalltown Area Community Hospital after suffering a massive stroke Friday evening. Born Sept. 15, 1901, at Montour, he was the son of Arthur I. And Lelia Etta DeLand Smith. He received his education in the Montour Schools graduating with the class of 1916. During World War II he served with the Army Air Corp and was a charter member of the State Guard and Legion of Guardsman. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. On April 3, 1943, at Ute, he married Mary Jane Sander. He spent all of his life in Montour and Marshalltown area except for 10 years in Ute. After his return to Marshalltown he worked for the J. I. Case Company and Marshalltown Manufacturing until his retirement. Preceding him in death were one sister, Gertrude Cooper and a brother, Wallace Smith. Surviving beside his widow are one daughter RoseMary Rene' and a grandson, Troy Rene' of Dallas, Texas, as well as other relatives. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday from Estel-Perrin-Avey Chapel with Pastor O. K. Anderson of the Elim Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
