Mrs. L. L. Bixby Dead At 69; Former Teacher

Services for Mrs. Lowell L. Bixby, 69, a member of a prominent Liscomb family who died Sunday at 10 p.m. At a Marshalltown hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Liscomb Church of Christ. The Rev. R. W. Hill, of the Bethel Grove church will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Bruce Rodrick of Liscomb. Burial will be in the Liscomb Cemetery. Friends may call at Estel-Perrin Funeral Home until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. ALTHOUGH Mrs. Bixby had been in failing health for some years, she had made a visit to Florida with the family, returning only recently. Mrs. Bixby was a lifelong resident of the Liscomb community. She was born Hazel Dell Barber, July 11, 1887, a daughter of William and Dell (Scott) Barber. Her father died when she was a small child, and she was reared in the home of her mother and stepfather, the late E. L. Burkhart. SHE WAS graduated from Liscomb High School in 1905, attended Drake University, Des Moines, and taught in rural schools of the Liscomb community and in the Anson School in Marshalltown. In her earlier years she was very active in church and community affairs. On Oct. 2, 1912, she was married to Lowell L. Bixby, of Liscomb, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Dean Yantis of 706 N. 5th Ave., and a son, Lorren L. Bixby, living at home. There are two granddaughters, Mrs. Fred Gould of Camp Pendleton, Calif., and Mrs. Irvin Harre, Gilman, and three great grandchildren. Mrs. L. O Boyd of Liscomb is a stepsister.

Mrs. Bixby Rites Held Wednesday

LISCOMB --- (Special) --- Services for Mrs. L. L. Bixby, who died Sunday night at a Marshalltown hospital, were at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Liscomb Church of Christ. The Rev. R. W. Hill of Bethel Grove officiated, assisted by the Rev. Bruce Rodrick, pastor of the Liscomb church. Bearers were George Leise, Kenneth Lyon, William Boyd, Elmer McCrary, Lester McKibben, and Clifford Gifford. Burial was in the Liscomb Cemetery. The services were largely attended by relatives and friends from the Liscomb community and surrounding towns.
