Mrs. Eliza Whitacre Dies at Home of Son, Joseph A. Whitacre, Monday Night --- Was Widow of One of Earlier Physicians of Marshall and Hardin Counties

Mrs. Eliza Whitacre, oldest native born woman of Marshall county, died at 7 o'clock Monday night at the home of her son, Joseph A. Whitacre, 107 ½ North Second street. Death was due to general debility of age. She had been in failing health since early last fall and had been confined to bed three months. Her parents, John and Mary Hauser, were the earliest settlers in the Bethel Grove neighborhood, coming from Indiana in 1849. She was born Oct. 28, 1851, on the farm three and a half miles southwest of Liscomb, homesteaded by her father and now owned by a younger brother, L. W. Hauser. She spent her entire life in Marshall county except for a brief period shortly after her marriage when she lived in Hardin county, at Whitten and Union. MARRIED TO PHYSICIAN Eliza Hauser was married Dec. 31, 1870, at the Hauser homestead to Dr. Edward D. Whitacre, one of the earlier physicians of Hardin and Marshall counties. After the short residence at Whitten and Union, Dr. and Mrs. Whitacre moved to Liscomb where they made their home until 1892, when the moved to Marshalltown where Mrs. Whitacre spent the rest of her life. She was the mother of three children, Carrie who died in infancy; a son Edwin H. Whitacre, who died here Dec. 24, 1893, and the son, Joseph A., at whose home she died. Dr. Whitacre died here April 30, 1908, and Mrs. Whitacre had since made her home with her son. Surviving in addition to the son are three grandchildren, Doris, John and Josephine Whitacre, city; two brothers, George and L. W. Hauser of the Bethel Grove neighborhood, and two sisters, Mrs. Eudora Robilliard of Faribault, Minn., and Mrs. Corena Brown of West Liberty. FUNERAL WEDNESDAY Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Wednesday from the Estel funeral home in charge of Rev. P. G. Dennis, pastor of the Central Church of Christ and burial will be in the family lot in the Liscomb cemetery. The body will be at the Estel funeral home until the hour of the service.
