Mrs. E. E. Boyd Is Dead at Liscomb

Liscomb, April 29 -- (Special) -- Death at 9 o'clock Wednesday night claimed Mrs. E. E. Boyd, wife of the postmaster of Liscomb. Mrs. Boyd had been a sufferer from diabetes for a number of years and had been confined to her bed for the past month, but only within the past few days had her condition been critical. Funeral services for Mrs. Boyd will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon from the Liscomb Christian church, in charge of Rev. George W. Biersborn, assisted by Rev. Loren Works. The prayer service will be on the family lot in the Liscomb cemetery. Mrs. Boyd was a member of one of the oldest pioneer families in the Liscomb community, where she has spent practically her entire life. Her parents, Timothy and Catharine Weatherly, came from Owen county, Indiana, in 1852, in a covered wagon drawn by oxen. The Weatherly family took up land from the government at $1.25 an acre. They built the first cabin on the prairies, away from the protection of the timber, a mile and a half southwest of Liscomb. The land is now owned by Charles Nugent. Mrs. Boyd, who was the youngest of a family of 12 children, was born on this farm Jan. 25, 1868. Eliza C. Weatherly and Elmer E. Boyd were married Aug. 5, 1885, by Rev. Andrew Herron, in the Presbyterian parsonage at Albion. They lived on farms in the Liscomb community for a few years, and then moved to Liscomb where Mr. Boyd was the village blacksmith for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd were the parents of 13 children, three of whom died in infancy. The 10 surviving are V. E. Boyd and B. E. Boyd of Liscomb, Mrs. Louva Carter of Hampton, Mrs. W. S. Crouse of Conrad, Mrs. C. B. Schryver of St. Anthony, H. E. Boyd of Madison, Wis., Dale Boyd of Beloit, Wis., Mrs. Carl Denbow of Gladbrook and Mrs. Wilfred Good of Union. There are 28 grandchildren and one great grandchild. A sister and two brothers also survive, Mrs. Sade Bueghly of Liscomb, John Weatherly of Doon and George Weatherly of Park Rapids, Minn. Mrs. Boyd had been a life long member of the Liscomb Church of Christ. Two sons were world war veterans and she was a charter member of the Liscomb American Legion Auxiliary. She served as receiver of the Liscomb Royal Neighbor lodge from 1914 until the lodge disbanded in 1936. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd celebrated their golden wedding Aug. 7, 1935.
