DIES AT AGE OF 92

Mrs. Jennie Lockard, 92, a resident of Hardin county for 82 years, mother of T. E. Lockard of Des Moines, former county supervisor of Marshall County, and for a short time a resident of this city died at 6:30 p.m. at the home of her grandson, Leo Lockard, in Des Moines. She had been in failing health for two years, but was bedfast only part of the time in the last four months. Death was due to infirmities of age. Mrs. Lockard was born Sarah Jane Hauser, Oct. 16, 1847, in Owen County, Indiana, the daughter of Thomas and Nancy B. Hauser. When she was 3 years old she moved with her parents near Whitten in Hardin County. She was married July 4, 1864, to George W. Lockard and he died Sept. 5, 1907. In 1932 she came to this city to maker her home with her daughter, Mrs. L. B. Tucker. After her death in 1934, she went to Des Moines to make her home with her grandson. She was a charter member of the Church of Christ in Whitten and while in this city united with the Central church here. She was active in the church in Whitten teaching a Sunday school class for many years. Mrs. Lockard is survived by one son, T. E. Lockard of Des Moines and one brother C. V. Hauser of Whitten, and one sister, Mrs. T. R. Madole at Union. She is also survived by four grandsons, Leo Lockard, George Tucker, Carleton Tucker and Robert Tucker, six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. One grandchild, Mrs. Ervine Harland, died in this city last June 1. A prayer service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Pursel funeral home followed by services at the Whitten Christian church at 2:30. Both services will be in charge of Rev. P. G. Dennis. Burial will be in the Hauser cemetery near Whitten.
