Cleo Bruce, 84, of New Virginia, Iowa, formerly of Marshalltown and Union, died Tuesday, January 20th, at the Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines. Her death came peacefully at 12:27 p.m. with her family at her side. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Gary Reischauer officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Hauser Cemetery near Whitten. Prior to burial, there will be a time of fellowship and refreshments with the family at the hospitality room of the funeral home. Born Cleo Mae Smith on October 19, 1924, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Earl and Hazel Smith. She received her education in the area of her birth. On January 3, 1942, she was united in marriage to Dick Bruce in Unionville, MO. They made their homes in Marshalltown, LeGrand, and Union before moving to New Virginia to be near their daughter. Mr. Bruce passed away on February 14, 2006. Mrs. Bruce was employed at Fisher Controls for 25 years as an assembler and was a member of the UAW Local #893. During her retirement, she most enjoyed spending her time with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory is her children: Jim (Linda) Bruce of Union, Iowa, Nancy (Ken) Taylor of New Virginia, Iowa, and four grandchildren: Kendra (John) Johansen, Kris Noonan, Jamie (Gary) Reischauer and Kim (Doug) Clark and 11 great-grandchildren. In death she has rejoined Dick, her beloved husband of 64 years, her parents and sister, Lucile Buchanan.
