Ruth Lorraine Stewart, 86, of Marshalltown passed away Wednesday, January 21st, 2009 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. A celebration of Ruth’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 27th at Central Christian Church, with Pastor Gail Thiessen officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, January 26th at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Ruth’s name to Central Christian Church. Ruth was born on March 25th, 1922, in Marshalltown, to parents Alfred and May (Price) Olsen. She was raised in Marshalltown, where she attended and graduated high school in 1940. On September 30th, 1944 Ruth was united in marriage to Robert Stewart in Lawton, OK. The couple made their home in Marshalltown, where they raised their two sons, Dale and Dennis. Ruth dedicated her life to her family. She worked alongside her husband at the family business, R.D. Stewart Inc. She loved travel, having been to most European countries, as well as China, Hong Kong, Japan, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and spent many summers at the family’s home in Canada. Ruth was a member of Theta Chi, Souvenirs Club, and a longtime member of Central Christian Church. Ruth will be greatly missed by her loving family, as well as many friends. Left to cherish Ruth’s memory is her husband Robert; her sons Dale (Carol) Stewart of Bend, OR, and Dennis Stewart of Marshalltown; her grandchildren: Cameron Stewart of Eugene, OR, Amanda Stewart of San Francisco, CA, Tricia Lammli of Destin, FL, and Carley Harwood of Norfolk, VA; and her great-granddaughter Sydney Harwood. In death, Ruth has rejoined her parents, two brothers, and one sister.
