Howard Rosfjord, 83, longtime LeGrand/Dunbar area farmer, died Thursday, January 22nd, at the Mayflower Home in Grinnell where he has resided for the past two years. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 26th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown with Pastors Jeff Blackman of the Gilman Community Church and David Raymond of Newton officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with a lunch to follow by the women of the Gilman Community Church at the hospitality room of the funeral home. Visitation will be held from 2-4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home with a 4:00 p.m. Order of the Eastern Star service. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. A memorial fund is being established. Ph 641-844-1234. Born in the same house as his mother south of LeGrand on September 21, 1925, Howard was the son of Herman and Mabel (Knudson) Rosfjord. He graduated from the Dunbar High School as Valedictorian in 1943 and later served our country honorably in the US Army in WWII. On November 23rd, 1949, he was united in marriage to Barbara Miller of Conrad at the Little Brown Church. They made their home in Tama County until moving to the home place for 43 years. Mr. Rosfjord farmed and sold Archer Oil and was a member of the Gilman United Church of Christ for over 50 years - serving as treasurer, moderator and Sunday School superintendent, The Marshall Masonic Lodge #108 AF & AM (originally of the LeGrand Lodge for 50 plus years), Order of the Eastern Star (State Grand Officer in 2002), Cedar Valley Farm Business Board, American Legion and formerly of the Tama County Fairboard, 4-H leader and Little League coach. Howard was an honest, hardworking man who was committed to many causes, loved his family deeply and appreciated the everyday things in life after living through the Depression. He was especially proud of his Century Farm. Left to cherish his memory are Barbara, his loving wife of 59 years, three children: Merlin (Becky) Rosfjord of Durant, Iowa, Steve Rosfjord of LeGrand and Mary Jo (Kevin) Keith of Coralville, three grandchildren: Kristin Keith of Chicago, Katie Keith of Iowa City and Nate Rosfjord of LeGrand and his only sister, Marjorie Stubbs of Green Mountain. In death he has rejoined his parents, sister Vivian Kouba and brother, Donald.
