INFLUENZA VICTIM

P. L. Collins, prominent Taylor township farmer, died at 11:25 Wednesday night at his home, five miles north of Marshalltown, after an illness of one week of influenza and complications.

A resident of Taylor township since 1891, and of the county since 1876, Mr. Collins always took an active interest in the affairs of his township and of the civic affairs of the town of Albion.

Philip Louis Collins was born Oct. 17, 1855 in Brattleboro, Vt., a son of Louis and Mary Potter Collins. He attended school at Powers Institute, Bernardston, Mass., and 1876, when 21 years of age, he came to Iowa upon the suggestion of his uncles, Thomas & Daniel Collins, old time Albion residents. In Marshalltown March 21, 1881, he married Rebecca H. Carter and they lived in the Albion-Liscomb neighborhood until 1891 when they moved to the Taylor township farm which was their home for the rest of their lives.

They celebrated their golden wedding March 21, 1931 and Mrs. Collins died Jan. 23, 1936.

He is survived by four sons, Paul H., John Louis, and Walter P. Collins, all of Taylor township, and U. Bernye Collins of Gladbrook, 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He attended the Friends church in Marshalltown for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the Estel funeral home in charge of Rev. C. D. Byrd. Burial will be in the Albion cemetery.
