Times Republican, Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa
Monday, April 23, 1900

Daniel Collins, one of the wealthiest farmers of Marshall County, died Sunday afternoon at 12:18 at his home, three miles north of Albion. Mr. Collins was nearly 80 years of age and his death was due more to infirmities of old age rather than to any one particular ailment. For years he has been a hard worker, and even up to his advanced years looked personally after the interests of his large farm. Mr. Collins has been a resident of Marshall County for about 45 years and amassed a large fortune. The present homestead is located on a combined acreage of 1,000 acres, and Mr. Collins owned beside that in Marshall County, 300 or 400 acres over near the Iowa River. He also possessed considerable Nebraska land. His estimated worth is about $150,000. A wife and two children survive the deceased. The daughter is Miss Florence Collins, who is well known in Marshalltown, and a son Sanford Collins, who resides on an adjoining farm to the homestead. The funeral will be conducted Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock from the family home, Rev. Herron, formerly of the Presbyterian Church in Albion, and now of Paulina, Iowa officiating.

Note: Daniel Collins was the son of Robert and Ruth Browning Collins, born March 22, 1819 in Vermont. He is buried at Albion, Iowa.
