FORMER ALBION WOMAN AND MOTHER OF MRS. M. M. DICKSON DIES

Mrs. Eliza M. Collins, a former old resident of Albion neighborhood, the widow of Daniel Collins and mother of Mrs. M. M. Dickson of this city, died at the latter’s home, 803 W. Main Street, Friday afternoon at 4 o’clock of apoplexy. Mrs. Collins was stricken Monday afternoon, the paralytic condition appearing first as blindness. Later the paralysis spread thru left side and finally involved the whole body. Mrs. Collins had had two previous attacks, the first about two years ago.

Mrs. Collins lived in Taylor and Iowa townships for almost 40 years and up to 13 years ago, when she went to live with her daughter after Mr. Collins death. Mrs. Collins maiden name was Eliza M. Carter. She was born near Mooresville, Indiana, August 12, 1837. Her parents Mr. and Mrs. John Carter lived there until 1856 when they moved to Hamilton County, Indiana. In 1863 they came to Iowa and settled in Taylor Township, 5 miles north of Marshalltown. Mrs. Collins became the wife of Daniel Collins at Albion September 17, 1868. He died April 22, 1900. One son, D. Sanford Collins, of near Albion survives his mother in addition to the daughter, Mrs. Dickson. Four sisters also survive Mrs. Collins. They are Miss Susannah and Miss Anna Carter of Albion; Mrs. Mary M. Collins of this city and Mrs. P. L. Collins of Taylor Township.

Mrs. Collins was reared a Friend, but after moving near Albion became a Presbyterian, only to return to the Friends Church after she came to the city.

The funeral will be held from the Friends Church Saturday at 1:30, Rev. Isaac N. Rich officiating. Interment will be at the Albion Cemetery.
