He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. On July 18, 1953, he was united in marriage to Juanita Gallentine in Marshalltown, Iowa. Following his marriage he was employed by Fisher Controls and Jack Arney, and later purchased Shavers Apco in 1963. He changed the name to Dodd's Service and in 1967 moved from the service station to the sanitation business, E-Z Sanitation, because of the relocation of Highway 14 North. Governor, and chairman of several district committees, and Frank Lewis Glick Post #46 of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Teri in 1957.
