Mrs. Pothast Dead
Well known Van Cleve Women Succumbs to Pneumonia
Mrs. Bertha Mearle Pothast, wife of Lester Pothast a well known resident of Van Cleve neighborhood, died at 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at St. Thomas hospital of pneumonia. Mrs. Pothast had been ill only since last Saturday night. She was brought to the hospital Monday, from her home at the edge of Van Cleve.
Mrs. Pothast was born Bertha Mearle Dannen, near Van Cleve, Oct.24, 1903, and had spent her entire life in the vicinity of her native town. She was graduated from the Van Cleve High School with the class of 1922. She then entered nurses training at St. Thomas hospital and was there for more than a year, when she gave up the work on her marriage to Lester Pothast of near Melbourne, Dec. 3, 1924, at Nashua. (Lester's obituary said Dec.4, 1924). Mr. and Mrs. Pothast had moved, soon after their marriage to a farm just south of Van Cleve.
Mrs. Pothast is survived by her husband and three children, Beverly Ellen, Miles Dale, and Kenneth Henry; her parents, George H. and Lena Dannen, of near Melbourne; a brother, Thomas E. Dannen, seven miles southwest of this city, and two sisters, Mrs. Ray E. Wehrman, ten miles north of the city and Miss Mary Dannen, a teacher in the schools of Bovey, Minn.
A prayer service will be held at 1:30 Saturday afternoon from the home and funeral services will be held from the Van Cleve Congregational Church at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, two miles west and two miles south of Van Cleve.
