Ronald C. Pothast, 82,

Melbourne- Ronald C. Pothast, 82, of Melbourne, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pursel Davis Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Gregory Ellcey of the First Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery near Melbourne. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
He was born on June 11, 1916, near Melbourne to Fredrick and Anna (Goecke) Pothast. He was raised in rural Melbourne, graduated from Van Cleve High School in 1935.
He married Anna Marie Goff on May 25, 1941 in Grinnell. He was a grain and livestock farmer in the Melbourne and Van Cleve areas, retiring in 1981.
He was a past Van Cleve School Board member where he served as president, a past member of the Van Cleve United Church of Christ, member of the Totem Bowl Senior Men's Bowling League and had played baseball and softball until the age of 50.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; four sons, William (Patricia) of Eagle Butte, S. D., Ronald (Barbara) of Ankeny, Douglas of Melbourne and Dennis (Mary) of Melbourne; a daughter, Margaret (Mrs. Rob) Tiernan of Marshalltown; a sister, Ethel Nielsen of Piere, S. D.; 14 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harold and August, and a sister, Ruth Walkup.
