L. Merle Pothast, 65,

L. Merle Pothast, 65, of Melbourne died Thursday, May 18, at his home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John United Church of Christ, Melbourne, with the Rev. Linda Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery northeast of Melbourne. Visitation will be after 8 a.m. Monday at Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established.
He was born July 23, 1929, in State Center to Lewis and Erma Lucy Ide Pothast. He graduated from Van Cleve High School in 1946.
He married Doris Shibe Aug. 20, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. They lived in the area and moved to Pine Bluffs, Wyo. They returned to the area in January 1966. He was a farmer and truck driver. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ and the Gate City Lodge #32, AF&AM of Pine Bluffs, where he was a third degree Mason.
Survivors include his wife Doris; two sons, Russell of Austin, Texas, and Earl of DesMoines; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
