County Native Dead At Age 44

Services will be held Friday in Hampton and Saturday in Van Cleve for Shirley Pothast Dixon, 44, who died Wednesday morning at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital, Mason City.
The Hampton service will be a the Sietseman Vogel Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Friday, and then the body will be brought to Ryan Davis Funeral Home, Melbourne, where visitation will be available after 3 p.m. Saturdays service will be at 2 p.m. at the Van Cleve United Church of Christ, with Rev. Nancy Nichols in charge; burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Dixon was born July 4, 1933, at State Center, a daughter of Lewis and Erma Ide Pothast. She was reared and educated in the Van Cleve area, graduated from Van Cleve High School and attending Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school for a short time and then when she moved to Hampton, was an Avon representative for quite some time. For the past several years she was the secretary at the Franklin General Hospital, Hampton. She was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three children; Diane (Mrs. Kyle) Marquard, Greene, Dawn Dixon, a student at Luther College, Decorah, and Michael Dixon, a student at Iowa State University, Ames.
She is also survived by a brother, Merle Pothast, Melbourne. She was preceded in death by her parents.
