L.R. Pothast Dies Sunday At Age 69

Melbourne Special Lester Pothast, 69, a long time resident of this area, died Sunday morning at Community Hospital East in Marshalltown. He was born May 16, 1901, at Van Cleve, a son of Henry A. and Anna Hansen Pothast.
He was married to Bertha Dannen on Dec. 4, 1924, at Nashua and she died Feb. 25, 1932. His second marriage was to Mrs. Annie Dunham Feb.1, 1946 at Kansas City, Kansas and she survives with five children.
They are Mrs. Arnold (Beverly) Lemker of Haverhill, Dr. Miles Pothast of Ventura, Paul Pothast of Albion and Kenneth and Henry Pothast of Melbourne. There are 12 grandchildren.
His parents, one brother, Lewis and two grandchildren preceded him in death.
Mr. Pothast farmed and owned and operated the Pothast Trucking Company, retiring in 1965. He was a member of the Van Cleve United Church of Christ where services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Charles Eversman will be in charge and burial in maple Grove Cemetery.
