Mabel Helene (Berg) Henze, 94, of State Center, and more recently of Glenwood Place, Marshalltown, passed away Tuesday evening, April 29, at MMSC. Services will be Saturday, May 3, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in State Center, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, State Center. The Reverend Brad Miller will officiate.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Wensel-Perrin Funeral Home in State Center from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 2. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in State Center.
Mabel was born on December 14, 1913, near White Earth in western North Dakota to John Berg and Karen (Sjomeling) Berg. She was educated in the area school. On December 31, 1941, she married Harvey Henze at Wolf Point, Montana. They made their home on a farm five miles southwest of State Center until moving to town in 1949.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in State Center. She enjoyed sewing and gardening, and she was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 4, 1990; three brothers, Arne, Martin and Edward; three sisters, Julia Moe, Connie Thorson and Ollie Seeger; four grandchildren and one great grandchild in infancy.
She is survived by two sons, Roger (Ann), of Marshalltown; Donald, of Irvine, California; two daughters, Carole (Bert) Permar, of Marshalltown, and Sharon (Sam) Johnson, of Rhodes; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and three step-great grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Berg, Of Cheyenne, Wyoming, a sister, Bernice Miller, of Rockford, Ohio, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
