DDale F. Salasek, 76 of Marshalltown, entered into eternal life Friday, May 02, 2008 at his home while under the loving care of his family at the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 6th at Hope United Methodist Church. According to Dale’s wishes, Dale’s body will be donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine following the service. Visitation will be held from 5 – 7:30 PM Monday at Hope United Methodist Church. Memorials may be directed to the church. Condolences may also be sent to Dale’s family at www.vogelfuneralhomes.com. The Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home is caring for Dale and his family.
Dale was born on June 9, 1931 in Marshalltown, the son of Fred and Louise (Dostal) Salasek. He grew up in the Marshalltown area and graduated from the LeGrand High School with the class of 1948. In 1951, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served our country for 2 years before his honorable discharge. On December 27, 1953 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Andrews at Grace E.U.B. Church in Marshalltown. The couple farmed southeast Marshalltown for 30 years and sold Pioneer Seed Corn for 4 years. Dale had served on the boards at Marshall County REC/Consumer’s Energy and the Marshall County Farm Bureau. He drove bus for the LDF School District for 10 years and he worked for the Marshall County Assessors Office and the Marshall County ASCS Office. He enjoyed volunteering for the House of Compassion Soup Kitchen and driving veterans to the Veteran’s Hospitals in Des Moines and Iowa City. He was a charter member of Hope United Methodist Church where he had taught Sunday School and he was an active member of the Central Iowa Antique Power Club and the Marshalltown Restorers Club.
He will be missed by his wife of nearly 54 years, Carolyn of Marshalltown; four children: Steve (Joyce) Salasek of Marshalltown, Cynthia (Bobby) Marlette of Coeur d’Alene, ID, Brian Salasek of Ankeny and Tim (Stephanie) Salasek of Kelley, IA; two sisters: Dolores (Michael) Kattchee of Coralville, and Glenace (Mark) Melton of Las Vegas, NV; and also his mother-in-law Eva Miller of Marshalltown.
In eternal life, Dale joins his parents.
