Betty Jane (Rittenhour) Rinehart, 89, of Marshalltown, died Monday, May 5, 2008 at MMSC. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Wittemberg Cemetery in rural Newton. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5-6:30pm at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be sent to Iowa River Hospice or Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.vogelfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of William and Anna (Olander) Rittenhour, Betty was born March 11, 1919, in Boone, Iowa. She graduated from Boone High School in 1937 and attended one year of college. On February 8, 1945, Betty was united in marriage to William F. (Bill) Rinehart in Miami, Florida.
After their marriage, Betty and Bill lived in Oskaloosa, Iowa. In 1948 they moved to an acreage north of Newton, Iowa. After Bill’s death, Betty moved to Marshalltown, Iowa and lived at the Ember’s Retirement Community from 1994 until 2002. Betty moved into the Villa Del Sol in late 2002 and lived there until her death.
Betty was a member of Wittemberg Church in rural Newton, Iowa. She was active with the children’s Sunday School and the Newton Church Women’s United.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, Billy D. Rittenhour.
Those left to honor Betty’s memory include two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Richard Cope, of Marshalltown, Carol and David Fox of Alexandria, Virginia; a son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Dianne Rinehart, of Marshalltown; six grandchildren, Angela Cope of Marshalltown, Elizabeth (William) Madden, of Alexandria, Virginia, Jason (Nicole) Cope, of Ankeny, Leah (Patrick) Stansberry, of Marshalltown, Thomas (Katie) Rinehart, of Iowa City, Sarah Rinehart, of Marshalltown; and two great-grandchildren, Connor Cope, of Marshalltown and Gavin Cope, of Ankeny.
