Ruth Downing, 85, of State Center, formerly of Marshalltown, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 23rd, at the State Center Nursing and Rehab Center while in the care of Iowa Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery on Friday, February 29th at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 1-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Born on October 30, 1922, in Iowa Center, Iowa, she was the daughter of John and Lillie Mae (Smith) Andrews. Ruth grew up with two brothers and 6 sisters. On September 2, 1938, Ruth married Kenneth Downing in Collins. The couple raised one son and three daughters on their farm. Kenneth passed away on October 30, 1983. Later, Ruth married Harold Rouse on May 5, 1984. He passed away on October 7, 2001. Ruth was a true lady. She took great pride in how she presented herself, and she paid careful attention to details and that her outfits and accessories were coordinated. She also had a strong Christian faith. She will be greatly missed by many. Ruth is survived by her children: Carol (Mark) Feld of Marshalltown, Dennis (Karen) Downing of Lexington, Kentucky, Betty(Larry) Hainlen of LaVergne, Tennessee, and Bonnie (Richard) West of Cheboygan, Michigan; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. In death, she has rejoined her parents, husband Kenneth Downing, second husband Harold Rouse, her two brothers, and her 6 sisters.
