Gary P. Nicholson, 68 of rural Marshalltown, entered into eternal life Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines with his family by his side. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, February 7, 2008 at the chapel of the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Burial will be in the Iowa River Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm Wednesday at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home. A memorial fund is being established. Born on July 26, 1939 in Marshalltown, Gary was the son of Paul and Flossie (Lamer) Nicholson. He graduated from the Green Mountain High School in 1957 and was united in marriage to Betty Lynk on July 30, 1960. Gary was an active member of the Iowa River Church of the Brethren where he was involved in various ministries. He was a former member of the Green Mountain School Board, a Brethren Camp Board Member and a volunteer for the House of Compassion. As a retired farmer, he treasured spending time with family and friends, gardening and reaching out to those in need.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 47 years, Betty of Marshalltown; three daughters: Jody (Rob) Gates of New York, Julie (David) Mannan and Janet (Mike) Stegmann, all of Marshalltown; eight grandchildren: Justin, Hannah, Kelsey, Lauren, Tyler, Peyton, Allison and Nicholas; and two brother, Albert Nicholson of Reno, NV and Richard Nicholson of Marshalltown.

In eternal life, Gary has rejoined his parents and a niece, Cynthia Nicholson.
