Nile H. Harding, 65, of Marshalltown entered into eternal life Thursday, January 17, 2008 at his home in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, January 21, 2008 at the chapel of the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow in the Marietta Cemetery. Public visitation will be held from 2 pm until 4 pm Sunday at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Nile H. Harding Memorial Fund in care of his family. Condolences may also be sent to Nile’s family at www.vogelfuneralhomes.com.
Born on August 1, 1942, in Marshalltown, Nile was the son of Herbert L. and Bonnie Jane (Akers) Harding. He grew up in the Albion and Marietta area and attended school in Albion. Nile was a member of the Methodist Church and he was a former member of the Elks Lodge. Nile will be remembered most for his devotion and dedication to his volunteer work at the Iowa Veterans Home. As of April 2007, he had logged more than 27,000 hours of volunteer hours. He was recognized with The Commandant’s Award, The Governor’s Volunteer Award and in 2007 he received the President’s Call-To-Service Award. In 2002, he was recognized with The Rotary International Un-sung Hero Award. Named after Nile Kinnick, he was born and raised an Iowa Hawkeye fan. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Surviving is his mother, Jane Harding of Marshalltown; his sister, Carmalee Ann (Carlton) Harding Kothenbeutel of Marshalltown and his sister, DeArra Rozan (Mark) Harding Foster of Des Moines; 4 nieces: Jane, Leigh Ann, Katie & Emily; 2 great nephews: Andrew & Nathaniel; 3 great nieces: Molly, Avery & Lauren; and his loving cousins: Rosa Lee, Dale, Allan, Bruce, Lonnie, Nancene & Peggy.
In eternal life, Nile joins his father, Herbert L. Harding (1979).
