Eldo Hagedorn, 92, of rural Garwin, died Saturday, January 19th, 2008, at the Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 24th, at the Garwin United Methodist Church with Rev. Harry Wach officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Crystal Cemetery near Garwin. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown from 3-7:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service by the Olivet Masonic Lodge in Gladbrook being held at 4:30 p.m. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born Eldo Arthur Hagedorn on Marsha 1, 1914, at home in Howard Township, he was the son of Albert Hagedorn and Clara Delfs Hagedorn. He graduated with the Garwin High School Class of 1932. Eldo had planned to attend Coe College that fall, but because of his father’s death, he started farming with his mother Clara. On August 26th, 1945, Eldo was united in marriage to Maxine Gail Heintz at the Garwin E.U.B. Church. They farmed near Garwin for 50 years until retiring. Besides farming, Eldo was a field assessor for Tama County, served as a trustee and clerk for Carlton Township, and sold insurance for Grinnell Mutual for 20 years. Eldo also served on the County Board for FHA and Small Businesses. Besides being a charter member of the Garwin Lions Club, Eldo belonged to the Olivet Masonic Lodge in Gladbrook. Left to mourn his loss are daughters Vicki (Dennis) Walker of Marshalltown and Jane Blank of Salinas, California; grandchildren Jacki (Ryan) Miller, Rachel Blank and Jason Wagoner; great-grandchildren Tanner Uhde, Marissa Miller, Thomas Wagoner, and Lillian Wagoner; sister Helen Hagedorn Stellick of Marshalltown and sister-in-law Dorothy Fisher of Garwin. In death, Eldo has rejoined his parents Albert and Clara Hagedorn, his beloved wife Maxine (2005), and brother-in-law Kenneth Stellick.
