Evelyn D. Wells, 95 of the Bickford Cottage in Marshalltown entered into eternal life Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center while under the care of their staff and the Iowa River Hospice. Evelyn’s cremation rites have been entrusted to the Vogel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory. A public graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at the Riverside Cemetery and no public visitation is planned at this time. Her family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice. Condolences may also be sent to her family by visiting www.vogelfuneralhomes.com.
Born on April 19, 1912 in Ollie, Iowa, Evelyn was the daughter of Thomas and Marjorie (Worley) Davis. When Evelyn was young, her mother was re-married to Mr. Ralph Lipps and the family moved to the Marshalltown area. Evelyn graduated from the Marshalltown High School and received her teaching certificate from William Penn University. She taught business and office skills in the public school system in Northwood, IA. On July 5, 1934, she was united in marriage to Dr. Rodney C. Wells. The couple made their home in Marshalltown where Evelyn was a loving wife and mother. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church, P.E.O. Chapter BB, Early American Glass Club, and Entré Nous. She was a former board member at the Salvation Army, and, she was active in The Assistance League.
She will missed by her two sons, Rodney C. Wells, III and his wife, Judy of Garland, TX and Dr. John W. Wells of Marshalltown; 3 grandchildren: Gregory (Cheryl) Wells of Terrell, TX, Sharon (Randall) Scott of Paoli, PA, and Richard Wells of Garland, TX; 5 great grandchildren: Robert Alexandra & William Scott of Paoli, PA, Gregory Wells, Jr. and Brittney Wells; and two step grandchildren, Shaun and Courtney.
In eternal life, Evelyn joins her parents and step father, her husband, her brother, Gerald Davis, her step brother, Ralph Lipps, Jr. and her step sister, Marjorie Williams.
