Lorraine Forbes, 78, of 710 May Street, died Wednesday, February 15th, at the MMSC Emergency Room following a fire at her home.
Memorial services and a celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 P.M. Monday, February 20th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. There will be a time of fellowship and refreshment following the services in the hospitality room of the funeral home. Friends may call from 2-4:00 p.m. on Sunday with her family present. Born Lorraine Youker on October 25th, 1927, in Marshalltown, she was one of two children born to Earl and Gladys (Hanlin) Youker. She received her education in the area of her birth and graduated from the Marshalltown High School’s class of 1945.
She enjoyed crocheting and taught several people her art. She loved her cats and had several over the years. She loved nature and all animals. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Animal Planet and NBA Basketball. She will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.
Lorraine had been employed as a waitress and hostess at various restaurants over the years including Benny’s Café, Cecil’s, the Roundtable, Jax, Ramada and Maid-Rite. Also she was employed at MICA and as a home health aide helping the elderly.
Left to mourn her loss are her daughter, Sue (David) Gauthier of rural Tama, two grandchildren: Chad (Michele) Gauthier of Gladbrook and their children Alyssa and Lauren and Kyla Forbes (Enrique) and children Luis, Liliana, Yolanda and Stephanie, step-great-great-grandson Jaden, two step-granddaughters Lisa Butler and Angela Gonzales both of Marshalltown and her neighborhood family from May Street.
In death she has rejoined her parents Earl and Gladys Youker, her brother Merle Youker and son Steven Forbes who died February 5th, 2000.
