Ruth B. Munn, 91, of 215 Main Street, Melbourne, died early Saturday morning, February 18th, at the Villa del Sol.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the St. John United Church of Christ with Pastor Linda Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Melbourne Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home , 1209 Iowa Ave. W. Marshalltown, from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the St. John United Church of Christ in Melbourne. Born Ruth Berniece Halter on January 11th, 1915, on a farm near Melbourne, she was the daughter of Henry and Vena (James) Halter. She graduated from the Melbourne High School in 1932.
On March 4th, 1936, she married George LeRoy Munn of Baxter in Newton, Iowa. They managed the Phillips 66 oil station in Melbourne for several years. In 1943, they established Munn Plumbing Service and she was a partner in the business for 23 years, until his death on October 27th, 1967. Through her lifetime, she was very active in the Melbourne Community; in clubs, church, and organizations. She was a member of the Christian Church and now of the St. John United Church of Christ and a past member of the St. John Fellowship, the Legion Auxiliary Post #161, Melbourne 50+ Club and several birthday, coffee and card clubs. Having spent 20 winters at her home in Mesa, AZ., she was also active in groups there.
Survivors include one daughter, Janis Munn Engel of Waterloo, two granddaughters; Teresa Dahlgren (Michael McCollough) of Waterloo and Jacqueline Dahlgren McAllister (Joel) of Shawnee, Kansas. Ruth is also survived by four sisters; Doris (Charles) Giles of West Des Moines, Virginia Hall and Marjorie Davis both of Marshalltown and Norma (Richard) Graham of Bella Vista, Arkansas, her brother Merrill (Joline) Halter of Mesa, AZ and sister-in-law Meredith Halter of Melbourne.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Lawrence “Jiggs” Halter.
